IQVIA report updates pharmacy market data to the 17th week of 2023

The pharmacy market is also holding the handbrake in the 17th week of 2023, the week from April 24 to 30, losing 1.5 percent in value sales and 6.4 percent in packs on a year-on-year basis compared to the same seven days in 2022.

This is the picture that comes from Iqvia’s report that updates figures and trends in the channel to the first four months of the year: from the beginning of January to the end of April, pharmacy totals sales of 8.64 billion euros, +1.6 percent over the same period in 2022; packages sold, on the other hand, amount to just over 825 million, -3.7 percent over the past year.

Affecting the contraction is the sharp setback that the ethical drug suffers in the week: -2.3% in values and -4.2% in volumes on a year-on-year basis, for a trend growth over the four months that slows to +3% in sales (seven days earlier it was at +3.3%) and 1% in packages sold (+1.3%).

Showing minus sign on all indicators is also commercial, but this is nothing new: in week 17, in particular, the contraction is 0.5% in values and 9.8% in volumes, largely due to the slump in consumption that continues to characterize the patient care basket cause post-pandemic with -44% in values and -47% in volumes over the four months.

Personal care is still going strong with a trend growth of +10.6% in values and +5.8% in volumes.

The vitamins and dietary supplements group is still marking time with +0.8% in values and -6.5% in volumes.

On the other hand, the nutritional basket retains a bipolar trend with +3.3% in sales and -2.5% in packages, again over the four months.

Veterinarians did well, growing in values by 10.1% and remaining stable in volumes +0.1%.
