Online pharmacy market: Volume contraction -1.2%, trend growth stable in 2023
The online pharmacy market closes the 18th week of 2023 with a volume contraction, -1.2 % compared to the same seven days in 2022, holding flat the trend growth over the year.
This is the indication coming from the report with which Iqvia updates to the first week of May the numbers and percentages of e-commerce in pharmacies and parapharmacies: in a little more than four months, online turnover touches 262 million euros, totaling +6.5% over the first 18 weeks of 2022, the packages sold, on the other hand, touch 24 million with a -1.3% compared to 2022.
Dietary supplements are confirmed as the most important basket in the online pharmacy market: in 18 weeks, turnover exceeds 132 million euros with a total of 9.8 million packs sold, trend growth touches 8.6 % in values – a slight decrease compared to the week before – and 6.2 % in volumes, where seven days earlier it closed week 17 with +6.5%.
Following at a distance are the personal care basket, which in four months totaled sales of 81 million and 6.9 million pieces with cumulative growth of +10.6% and +6.9%.
Even more detached is the sop-otc drug group, which totals at values 28.5 million euros for nearly four million packs sold with cumulative growth of +9.2% and +4.3%.
Slowing down sharply but still in largely positive territory, finally, is the veterinary basket: just over 7 million euros in turnover, +21% and +30.7% trend growth in values and volumes over the four months.
