Pharmaceutical market boosts consumption thanks to flu season: +54% cough products
The pharmacy market is back in the positive on the main push of influenza and airway viruses (rhinoviruses, adenoviruses), which continue to show a very strong growth curve compared to past years.
This is the update coming from the report which Iqvia updates the channel’s numbers as of the 46th week of 2022, the one from November 14 to 20: in just under eleven months, pharmacy turnover touches 22.5 billion euros, for a cumulative growth that since the beginning of the month remains stable at +4.6%; packages sold, on the other hand, amount to 2.24 billion, for an increase over the eleven months of +4.7%%.
By way of illustration, the Influnet Bulletin of the Higher Institute of Health, reports for the same week a rate of 9.5 cases per 1,000 caregivers, about five points higher than the same period last year.

The cough products segment shows (again over the seven days) a 53.8 percent jump in turnover and 49.4 percent in units sold.
OTC FOCUS: PROBIOTICS
On the other hand, the patient care basket (-16.8 percent in value and -2.8 percent in volume) and the nutritional basket (-5.8 percent in pieces even though in value it grows by 1.1 percent) continue to show difficulties.
