Pharmaceutical market totals -13.2% of packages sold compared to 2022. What are the causes?
The pharmacy market begins 2023 with a heavy minus sign, but this is largely an optical illusion, generated by the comparison with a start of the year, that of 2022, in which consumption was largely altered by the omicron flood.
This is according to the report with which Iqvia photographs numbers and percentages of the first two weeks of the new year: in fourteen days the channel totals a turnover of just under one billion euros, -6.1 percent compared to the same period in 2022, for a total of 98.5 million pack sales, -13.2 percent over last year.

The contraction is also evident in the two segments into which the pharmacy market is divided: ethical remains almost stable in values (-0.1 percent) but in volume it loses.

The commercial area recorded a 26.2 percent decline in packages sold.

Among the trade baskets, however, some important increases stand out:
The personal care basket grows 9.5 percent in value and 3.8 percent in volume.

Instead, the patient care basket collapses, losing 62.3 percent in sales and 65.8 percent in packages sold in the yearly comparison.

Finally, another factor to consider in the analysis of this first part of the year is the weight of inflation: the conspicuous differences in growth between values and volumes found in some categories are the result of the price increases that occurred at the beginning of the year.
