Pharmacy market growing thanks to ethical drug

In the 14th week of 2023, the pharmacy market shows slight growth thanks to the driving force of the ethical segment

In the 14th week of 2023, the pharmacy market takes its foot off the brake and shows a slight trend growth, which, however, does not exceed a few tenths of a point.

This is the indication that comes from the report with which Iqvia updated to the seven days from April 3 to 9 figures and trends in the pharmacy channel: in just over three months, pharmacy totals a turnover of 7.2 billion euros, +2.1% over the same period in 2022 (a week earlier it was +1.9%); packages sold, on the other hand, amount to just under 691 million, -3.4% over the past year (-3.7% in week 13).

Both pharmacy macro-compartments contribute to the forward momentum: ethical drug grows in week 14 by 5.7% in value and 3.2% in volume compared to the same period in 2022.

The commercial market increases turnover by 3.3% but loses 5.7% in packages sold.

Among the free sale categories, personal care once again stands out, maintaining the momentum already shown seven days earlier: +19.7 % in value and +15.9 % in volume in week 14 compared to the same period a year ago.
